Some women taking weight loss injections such as Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, Victoza, and Saxenda have reported unexpected pregnancies, despite using contraception. UK MHRA data shows multiple pregnancy-related reports linked to these medications, including cases described as accidental. The MHRA emphasizes that these medicines are licensed treatments, not intended for cosmetic use, and advises reading the information leaflet or consulting a healthcare professional.

Some women taking weight loss injections have shared online experiences of unexpected pregnancies, despite using contraception. These cases have been informally nicknamed “Ozempic babies” or “Mounjaro babies” (Sky News, 2025).

According to the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), there were 26 pregnancy-related reports for women taking Mounjaro. Women do not always need to specify whether the pregnancy was unintentional, though at least one report did. There were also eight reports for people taking Ozempic or Wegovy, and nine for Victoza or Saxenda, including one accidental pregnancy report.

Dr Alison Cave, Chief Safety Officer at the MHRA, emphasized that these “skinny jabs” are licensed medicines and “should not be used as aesthetic or cosmetic treatments.” She noted that they are not intended as quick weight loss solutions and have not been assessed for safety when used in this way.

Dr Cave advised patients to read the information leaflet or speak with a healthcare professional as part of the prescribing process (Sky News, 2025).
