Indian healthcare group Narayana Health, founded by billionaire surgeon Dr. Devi Shetty, has acquired the UK’s Practice Plus Group for £189 million, marking its entry into the UK market. The deal includes 12 hospitals and surgical centres, which perform around 80,000 surgeries annually, with 93% of revenue from NHS patients. Dr. Shetty called the move an exciting step in Narayana’s global expansion, while PPG’s CEO praised the group’s reputation for efficient, high-quality care.

Narayana Health, an Indian healthcare group founded by billionaire surgeon Devi Shetty, enters the UK as it expands its global footprint. This was a £189 million deal acquiring a major UK private hospital group.

According to recent stock exchange filing, the acquisition was for 60,001 equity shares (100% stake), such that per share price for the acquisition would be £3146.29. Practise Plus Group operates 12 hospitals and surgical centres, offering services including orthopaedics, general surgery and ophthalmology.

Practice Plus Group is said to be the fifth largest private hospital group in the UK, performing around 80,000 surgeries per year (Narayana Health). According to Forbes, it is the fourth-largest provider for the NHS, with NHS patients accounting for 93% of its £229 million revenue in the year ended September 2024. (Forbes)
